Our Story

Casbah started over 22 years ago with a simple, heartfelt mission: to support and celebrate the beautiful Maya culture here in Mexico. Alberto, with his deep respect for the local community, began bringing their handmade crafts and stories to visitors. When he met Glincey, his best friend and business partner, their shared vision of connecting people through culture blossomed into something much bigger. Together, they created Casbah—a place where community, culture, and connection are at the heart of everything they do. The name “Casbah” itself means a gathering place, a safe haven for all, which perfectly reflects the spirit of what they’ve built. From their humble beginnings to now having boutiques in Troncones, Ixtapa, and Majahua, Alberto and Glincey’s journey has taken them far beyond Mexico. They’ve traveled to India and Indonesia, immersing themselves in local cultures and spirituality, even meeting the Dalai Lama along the way. These experiences deepened their love for handmade crafts, yoga, and meditation, and brought a new sense of purpose to their work. Today, Casbah is a blend of beautiful handmade treasures from Mexico, India, and Indonesia—each piece carefully chosen for its craftsmanship, beauty, and story.
